At the end of October I had the opportunity to conduct an interview with an up-and-coming country music group, Lockeland, on the last day of Neewollah. If you heard them, you would think they were some big superstar group!
Lockeland consists of lead singer, Kyndon Oakes, Michael Boris on drums, and Mark Vikingstad on guitar. They met around Nashville when they were doing writers rounds and saw that they clicked, and thus, Lockeland was formed!
Neeowallah is the biggest Halloween event in Kansas and it happens in the small town of Independence. Yes, if you didn’t notice, it is Halloween spelled backwards and it began in 1919 to provide positive activities for kids in the community. There are all kinds of things that happen during this time, from numerous musicals of Shrek on different days, to a Chili Cook Off Competition, to a 5k and 10k race! There were also THREE parades for people of all ages to enjoy. If you couldn’t be there in person, the parades were broadcasted live for you to enjoy. There was one day that it was cold and rainy for one of the parades and there was still a pretty good turnout. Over the course of the week, the organizers have around 500 volunteers that make the week a success!
On the last night of Neewollah, country music singer Chase Bryant came to town to do a show, and his opening act was Lockeland. They performed a great show and the crowd really enjoyed what they saw, including taking a selfie with the group at the end of the show.
During the interview we talked about their time in the UK. “The fans were incredible. We had a fantastic time – there really isn’t much more say. It was amazing, and we definitely want to go back and there’s plans of going back,” Kyndon said during the interview.
They’ve toured with names such as Kip Moore, Big & Rich, and Cam. Michael has toured with names, such as Luke Bryan and Train when he was working with other bands.
